Green Tourism Business Scheme

About Us > Corporate and social responsibility > Green Tourism Business Scheme

The Green Tourism Business Scheme (GTBS) is the national sustainable tourism certification scheme for the UK. Originally developed in partnership with Visit Scotland, it is now the only certification scheme validated by Visit Britain, through the International Centre for Responsible Tourism (ICRT).

GTBS is 'relevant to any tourism enterprise, large or small, rural or urban, whether focused on ecotourism, business tourism or any other tourism niche market. Green tourism businesses are those actively engaged in reducing the negative environmental and social impacts of their tourism operations'.

As stated in our environmental policy, the EICA are committed to operating within set GTBS guidelines while using a responsible energy management system. Recently we had our first GTBS inspection and won a silver award!

Over the last year the EICA has worked hard to deliver the following:

  • An effective management system
  • Support of local and international organisations
  • Good use of low energy lighting and sensors
  • Use of recycled printer paper
  • Staff travel initiatives
