Our environmental policy was established by the centre’s Management Team, who has direct accountability for leading and implementing it amongst all members of staff. We are committed to operating within our set guidelines while using a responsible energy management system. All environmental and sustainability measures will also remain a key focus in the EICA’s service development plans, ensuring that we help protect the environment and contribute towards a sustainable future.
Commitment and Objectives
We will:
- Ensure efficient energy monitoring and management within the EICA and set operating targets to limit energy consumption but not to the discomfort of our customers or our staff
- Work to best practice and guidance as issued by advisory bodies such as the Carbon Trust
- Work towards sustainable and integrated waste management, reducing our waste and maximising the amount of reuse, recovery and recycling of materials
- Purchase consumables and products recognised as being environmentally friendly wherever possible, and where possible replace electrical fittings with energy efficient materials
- Work with suppliers who are equally committed to good environmental practices
- Support initiatives aimed at raising customer awareness of environmental issues and sustainability
- Dispose of all waste in the correct manner complying with The Control of Pollution (Special Waste) Regulations 1980 and in accordance with The Chemical (Hazard Information and Packaging) Regulations 1992 and The Environmental Act 1990
- Continue to invest in technology, plant and equipment to conserve energy and reduce pollution, and ensure existing plant is well maintained in order that it operates efficiently
Our Staff will:
- Attend training to increase awareness of energy efficiency and the need to recycle waste wherever possible
- Carry out COSHH assessments on all substances used and where possible reduce or eliminate hazardous substances
- Ensure monitoring systems are completed properly
- Be pro active in recycling on site waste
Through Our Programmes and Activities, we will:
- Work with partners to get more people, more active more often and promote the benefits to the environment of walking and cycling as alternative forms of transport
- Where possible support national campaigns and initiatives such as Cycle to Work Day
- Provide information on bus services and canal walkways to our customers and staff to reduce the number of cars used in travel to the centre
- Educate our customers participating in our outdoor activities about the impact of their activities on the environment and to leave the land undisturbed
