Youth Climbing Series

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland Youth Climbing Series (Formerly known as BRYCS) 2008 is coming to EICA.

It is that time of year again when up and coming young climbers from all over the United Kingdom take part in the biggest junior climbing competition series in the country. The Youth Climbing Series is a friendly fun orientated event that consists of 3 regional competitions which are run at local walls.

The Youth Climbing Series is open to all climbers between the ages of 7 -15 and is designed to provide a fun challenge for every climber involved regardless of age or ability. We have had competitors enter in the past that have never even climbed before so there really are no limits, if you want to participate- you can.

Kids taking part in the regional competition compete against each other on set boulder problems and routes in order to decide who will be ‘Regional Champion’ for their area. The best placed climbers from each region then attend a ‘National Youth Climbing Series Final’ to compete against each other in individual and team events.

There are 6 categories in the series:

  • 7 – 9 year old boys
  • 7 – 9 year old girls
  • 10 – 12 year old boys
  • 10 – 12 year old girls
  • 13 – 15 year old boys (you have to be able to lead climb to enter this category)
  • 13 – 15 year old girls (you have to be able to lead climb to enter this category)

Competitions for the South Scotland Region will take place on the following dates:

  • 15 March - Glasgow Climbing Centre
  • 5 April - Callander Leisure Centre Climbing Wall
  • 26 April - EICA: Ratho

On Saturday 28 June the National Final will take place at EICA: Ratho.

The Mountaineering Council of Scotland, who run the competition in Scotland, have a rough guide to the Youth Climbing Series section of their website you can reach by clicking here. And if you want to apply to take part you can download an application form here.
