Youth Climbing Series

Coaching & courses > Clubs and Groups > Youth Climbing Series

This is a weekly coaching session open to all kids from 12 -16 who compete in the Youth Climbing Series (formerly BRYCS), although exceptions can be made for younger kids. The sessions will include specific coaching and training, which is tailored to the individual climber. We will run workshops covering topics such as competition preparation, training safely and effectively, improving how we move, bouldering competitions, on-sight practice and many more. Members of this club will also be given the opportunity to take part in the new ‘Association of British Climbing Walls – National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme’.

BRYCS (The British Regional Youth Competition Series) is a series of competitions for young climbers at local climbing walls across the country. Scotland is split into two regions (North and South) with three rounds in each region. The top 3 climbers in each region qualify for a single national event. This year the finals were held here at the EICA.

The competitions are split into three age categories 7-9 years, 10-12 years and 13-15 years. The two younger age groups use top roping and the 13-15 year old competitors feature leading routes, all three also feature bouldering. In the competitions each event comprises 3 routes and 5 boulder problems for each category.

Attendance at the BRYCS club is by invite only and they meet on Saturdays from 10.00 - 13.00.

All bookings for these sessions must be made in advance by calling 0131 333 6333.
