Winter Skills

Coaching & courses > Winter Skills

Many people believe that the Scottish Mountains are at their most spectacular in winter when covered in snow and ice.  With a beautiful covering of the white stuff comes fresh challenges and a feeling of trepidation for many. Developing the skills that’ll let you move confidently about the mountains in winter conditions will provide you new physical tests and memorable experiences.

Our courses are aimed at those already doing some summer hill walking looking to head outdoors at other times of the year. The courses will equip you with the key skills of ice axe and crampon use, navigation skills, avalanche awareness and choosing the right route in the winter environment.

Developing these skills and gaining the confidence to venture out into the Scottish mountains in winter will allow you to access the hills all year round and soak in the drama and beauty of this amazing landscape in all it’s imposing glory.

The final Winter skills course of the season takes place on March 2 at a cost of £55.00 per person. This includes transport to and from EICA Ratho and  instruction.  It does not include equipment. Courses are also available on other dates as required, ask the instructional team for more information.
