The Mountaineering Council of Scotland (MCofS) has awarded the EICA:Ratho as Scotland’s National Indoor Climbing Centre!


Speaking on behalf of MCofS, which represents Scotland’s climbers and mountaineers, David Gibson, Chief Officer, stated “EICA: Ratho provides Scotland with a truly world-class indoor climbing venue: one which enables it to host both European and World Championship events. It is a fantastic national centre for a sport which has its roots on the crags and cliffs of Scotland’s mountains, and we are pleased to recognise its importance to the sport of climbing at home, and its status on the world stage.”


Louise Martin CBE, Chair of sportscotland said: “sportscotland is delighted to have supported the development of EICA: Ratho with a combined investment from the Scottish Government and the Lottery of just over £2.1 million. It is great to see it now being recognised in this way and we are sure it will continue to attract novice and experienced climbers alike, encouraging them to take part and develop their skills in this exciting sport.” Councillor Deidre Brock, Culture and Leisure Convenor for the City of Edinburgh Council, said: “Home to the largest indoor climbing arena in the world, the EICA showcases the sport at local, national and international levels and this accolade will further bolster its reputation."


Graeme Gardiner, Manager of EICA: Ratho said: "We are delighted to hear that EICA: Ratho has been confirmed as Scotland’s National Indoor Climbing Centre. This is an excellent achievement and recognition of the outstanding and world class facilities provided at the arena. In addition, it reflects the combined commitment from our staff to develop and champion the sport of climbing."
