Join our Mass Hypnosis

Old News > Join our Mass Hypnosis

"Look in to my eyes" may be the phrase we associate with hypnois but from Sunday 21st October onward the phrase may change to "now step off in to 100ft of nothingness."

Working closely with two of Paul McKenna’s protégés we're aiming for a mass curing of acrophobia, curing both adults and children of their fear of heights before testing their nerve on the world’s largest Aerial Assault course.

We're now looking for volunteers to come forward and face their fears so if you've seen the Aerial Assualt suspended above the arena floor and thought "I could never do that", now is the time to find that you can.

The event will be held from 9am on Sunday 21 October and volunteers of all ages  are invited to take part by emailing eica@dada.co.uk or contacting Susan on 0141 222 2266. The only pre-requirement is that you must be over 1.4meters tall to do the Aerial Assault course.

Using a combination of methods Edinburgh-based Brain Train will take volunteers through therapies including hypnosis and NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) to ensure that when faced with a 100ft drop the volunteers feel calm and serene and ready for the challenge.

Dawn and Gary Flockhart co-founded Brain Train in 2001 and both trained with Paul McKenna; together they have treated thousands of people of phobias including: fear of heights, spiders, snakes, public speaking and insects.

Graeme Gardiner, manager of the EICA, said: “I realise this must sound like a terrifying prospect to people who are scared of heights but there really is no better place in the world to conquer and face this fear than at the world’s largest indoor climbing arena.

“Fear of heights can be very debilitating and we really want to help people overcome this. We get a lot of parents coming through our doors who bring their kids to climb on the walls but are terrified at the thought of actually doing so themselves. We hope this event will help people from all walks of life overcome their fears and let them do all the things they always wanted to do; whether it’s getting on an aeroplane for the first time, taking up bungee jumping or getting into climbing.”

NLP is rapidly being recognised as the most effective tool for helping people achieve their goals and has been used for everything from encouraging sporting excellence to increasing confidence in public speaking.

Dawn Flockhart, co-founder of Brain Train, said: “This is a fantastic challenge and one that will really have a positive impact on those taking part.

“We are now seeing more and more children coming to us with phobias such as a fear of heights and it’s fantastic that doctors and medical professionals are now seeing hypnosis as a complimentary therapy to the work they undertake.

“The aim of the mass hypnosis event is to have fun while also curing people of their phobias. I’ve seen the aerial assault course and it’s a great challenge for us to have someone go from being terrified of heights to calmly stepping off a platform suspended 100ft above the arena! We’ll be using a range of different hypnosis therapies with the volunteers to ensure there are no moments of panic on the way round.”
